M.S.G. - The Acoustic Blues Trio is a roots-infused, Piedmont-steeped, yet thoroughly up-to-date group of widely and deeply talented musicians. Their influences include Archie Edwards, Cephas & Wiggins, and Etta Baker. A typical performance ranges from humorous roof-raisers to the deepest expression of the blues, with a whole lot of musical stops in between. They wield a wide variety of instruments, but primarily it's Miles Spicer on guitar; Jackie Merritt on harmonica; and Resa Gibbs on lead vocals and washboard.

Their present CD displays their maturation as performers, and songwriters. There are numerous pleasures to be experienced here including the marvelous vocals by all three and the very solid musicianship evident throughout. Despite being rooted in the blues, especially the Piedmont tradition, this album might be better termed as urban acoustic music insofar as there are healthy elements of the church, folk and other musical genres evident here. -- Ron Weinstock, DC Blues Society & Editor of Capital Blues

M.S.G.'s repertoire includes original songs, traditional blues, gospel and ragtime tunes, as well as a number of surprising covers.

The trio has performed at numerous festivals including: Bristol Rhythm and Roots Reunion, Smithsonian Folklife Festival, Artscape, Bull Durham Blues Festival, Harborfest and Bayou Boogaloo. M.S.G. has also had the honor of performing on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage.
